Newspaper Q&A- Vehicle & transit insurance
We’re aiming to raise awareness of the Rothbury name in 2010 and we're doing this through a question & answer format in national newspapers across New Zealand each month. It's a good opportunity for us to provide some information to you on common questions our clients have on business insurance. Why is the sum I insured a vehicle for not what I got back?
If this has happened it is most likely due to your being over-insured. You should insure vehicles for a realistic market value based on make, model and mileage. Auto Trader & Licensed Motor Vehicle Dealers are resources that can help you set a realistic value.
Contact a broker who can advise you further on this.
If the freight company has insurance, why do I need transit insurance?
Freight carriers generally do not hold any insurance over the goods they carry. They may have cover for their liability under the Carriers Act but there could be limitations. If your goods are lost or damaged the amount you may claim from the freight carrier could bear little relationship to the value of your goods. A good broker will be able to advise you on appropriate transit insurance to best suit your businesses needs.
