Protect your most valuable assets during your summer holiday
Whether you’re spending time at the beach, going on a road trip or even starting a home renovation project, it’s important to protect you home, contents, vehicle or rental property with the right insurance cover.
- Protect your contents and most valuable assets
Accidents and burglary can happen to anyone and insurance can enable you to repair or replace your assets. It’s important to ensure your belongings that you take away on holiday and leave at home are protected. Our brokers can help you understand your policy inclusions and exclusions that are often misunderstood for items like jewellery, drones and jet skis.
- Vehicle insurance cover
Before you begin your road trip this summer, it’s worthwhile to review your vehicle insurance policy. Based on your chosen level of cover, Vehicle insurance can cover you for accidental damage to your vehicle and your windscreen, less any excess, up to the current market value or a value agreed between you and the Insurer.
Having the right insurance cover may save you hours or even days of having to deal with unforeseen situations, such as car theft. Talk to us about the right vehicle insurance solution to meet your needs and we can even add roadside assistance to your policy.
- Short term holiday rental homes
If you’ve turned your home or batch into an income-earner holiday rental, anticipating the possible risks and understanding how this will affect your insurance is vital. For example, there is added liability of having paying guests in your home, so does your current insurance policy cover any accidental or malicious damage caused by paying guests in your home?
Contact your broker and advise what the home is being used for. Your broker can help mitigate any risks and ensure you have the right insurance cover in place to protect your home.
- Summer home renovation project
If you’re planning to sell your property or feel like it’s time for a home refresh, summer is a great time to embark on a home renovation project. Whether you're undertaking a large kitchen remodel, landscaping or building a new deck, it’s important to protect your investment while the work is being done.
Before you start your renovation project, it’s recommended to advise your Broker of the scope of works being done and to check whether you have the right insurance cover in place. Any structural repairs to the home may require a Contract Works policy. Ensure you only pay for the insurance cover you actually need.
We can help you understand the potential risks and how insurance can help. For example, your builders should have their own liability insurance to provide cover if a loss results from their negligence. However, if your home is damaged by an accidental event while renovations are in progress, despite all safety precautions being taken, the responsibility for the damage could lie with the home owner.
Once your home renovation project is complete, the total rebuilding cost of your home will have likely increased, otherwise known as the Sum Insured. The Sum Insured amount is based on the cost estimate to fully rebuild your home in case of total loss following a natural disaster, not the market value of your home. As a starting point, the home rebuilding cost calculator is a helpful tool to refer to.
