Conrad Shanly appointed to represent Lloyd's New Zealand on Insurance Council Commercial Property Committee
Rothbury is pleased to announce that Conrad Shanly has been appointed to represent Lloyd's New Zealand on the Insurance Council of New Zealand (ICNZ) Commercial Property Committee.
The appointment recognises Conrad's extensive experience across commercial insurance, enterprise risk, underwriting and alternative risk solutions, and provides an opportunity to contribute to industry discussions on the issues shaping New Zealand's commercial property insurance market.
As Head of Enterprise Risk & Insurance Solutions for Rothbury Group and Director of Specialist Property Underwriting Agencies (SPUA), Conrad brings a unique perspective that spans both the broking and underwriting sectors. The Enterprise Risk & Insurance Solutions function was established to strengthen Rothbury's specialist capabilities and support growing client demand for more sophisticated risk and insurance solutions.
Through his role on the Committee, he will represent the interests of Lloyd's coverholders in New Zealand while contributing to discussions around market trends, insurer appetite, emerging risks and resilience.
Commenting on the appointment, Conrad said:
"I'm honoured to have the opportunity to represent Lloyd's New Zealand on the ICNZ Commercial Property Committee.
New Zealand businesses continue to face an increasingly complex risk environment, with challenges ranging from natural hazards and climate-related exposures to supply chain disruption, cyber threats and changing insurer expectations. I look forward to contributing to discussions that support strong industry outcomes and help businesses better understand and manage these risks."
The appointment comes at a time when the commercial insurance market remains competitive, but insurers are becoming increasingly selective in their approach to risk.
Businesses are placing greater emphasis on resilience, risk mitigation and continuity planning, while insurers are looking more closely at factors such as risk quality, claims performance and exposure to natural hazards when determining pricing and capacity.
Conrad believes there is a growing opportunity for businesses to take a more proactive approach to risk management.
"The most successful organisations don't simply buy insurance and hope for the best. They actively manage risk, invest in resilience and work to position themselves as attractive risks to insurers. The better a business understands and manages its risk profile, the more influence it can have over insurance outcomes."
Rothbury congratulates Conrad on this well-deserved appointment and looks forward to the valuable contribution he will make in helping shape discussions on the future of commercial property risk and insurance in New Zealand.
